GIF to JPG Converter

To convert GIF to JPG, add your GIF files, choose JPG and press Convert. The first frame of each GIF is saved as a JPG at 90% quality by default. JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with white or a background color you choose. An animation becomes a single still picture. The conversion runs in your browser and the GIF never leaves your device.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Your file never leaves your device
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Output format
JPG does not support transparency; transparent areas are filled with this color.

Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.

How to convert GIF to JPG

  1. Add your GIF files

Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.

  2. Keep JPG as the output

JPG is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Changed

  • JPG is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail
  • The lossless source is recompressed at the quality you choose, so pixel values are no longer identical

Not carried over

  • Transparency: JPG does not support it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick (white by default)
  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
  • Motion: only the first frame is converted

When to use it

A thumbnail or preview of an animation

Video platforms, blogs and messaging apps often want a still preview image. The first frame of a GIF as a JPG works as a quick cover picture.

Upload a GIF where only JPG is allowed

Profile photos, job portals and print shops commonly accept JPG only. Converting the GIF gets the image accepted, at the cost of the animation.

Limitations to know

  • For animated GIF files only the first frame is converted.
  • Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
  • On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.

About the formats

What is GIF?

GIF is an image format from 1987 limited to 256 colors per image. It supports simple on/off transparency and short animations, which is why it is still used for small graphics and looping clips. For photographs it is a poor choice, because the color limit causes visible banding.

What is JPG?

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It uses lossy compression: detail the eye notices least is discarded to make files small, and the quality setting trades size against detail. JPG does not support transparency and is not ideal for text or sharp-edged graphics, but nearly every device, app and website opens it.

Frequently asked questions

Which frame of an animated GIF is used?

Always the first one. If you need a different moment from the animation, extract that frame in a GIF editor and convert it afterwards.

Will JPG improve the GIF's limited colors?

No. The GIF palette of at most 256 colors is what the JPG receives; JPG can store more colors but cannot recreate shades that were never in the GIF.

Why do sharp GIF graphics look slightly fuzzy as JPG?

JPG is designed for photos and softens hard edges between flat colors. For logos and pixel art, GIF to PNG keeps every edge crisp.

Is converting GIF to JPG free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
