Convert HTML to Word (DOCX)

To convert an HTML file to Word, upload the .html or .htm file from your computer, keep Word (DOCX) as the target and convert. Headings, lists, tables and links become native Word formatting, and images embedded as data: URIs are carried over. The tool does not take a URL, so save a web page as an .html file in your browser first.

  • Images embedded as data: URIs

Changed

  • Unstyled text is set in Times New Roman 12 pt

When to use it

Editing an email template or newsletter

Bring an HTML email template, newsletter or generated report into Word so you and your team can edit the copy with Track Changes and comments before it goes back into your email or publishing tool.

Reusing exported help or wiki pages

Pages exported as .html from a CMS, wiki or internal tool can become an editable DOCX that serves as the starting point for a formal report, user manual or client proposal.

Limitations to know

  • Only file uploads are supported; you cannot enter a web page URL.
  • Images stored in the folder saved next to a web page are not uploaded, so they do not appear.
  • Multi-column, flexbox or grid CSS layouts may not transfer faithfully to Word.

About the formats

What is HTML?

HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the markup language web pages are written in. Headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, links and images are defined with tags, and CSS controls how they look. An .html file opens in any web browser without extra software and reflows to the screen width instead of using fixed pages. External stylesheets, web fonts and remote images are separate resources and do not travel with the file unless they are embedded in it.

What is Word (DOCX)?

DOCX is the default document format of Microsoft Word since Word 2007. It is based on the Office Open XML standard: the file is a ZIP package that stores text, styles, tables, images, headers and footers as separate XML parts. DOCX files open and edit in Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs and Pages, which makes it the most common format for exchanging editable documents. When a fixed layout matters, DOCX files are usually converted to PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a web page to Word?

This tool needs a file, not a URL. Open the page in your browser, press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on Mac) to save it as .html, then upload that file. If the images matter, print the page to PDF from your browser instead and convert the PDF with the PDF to Word converter.

Why are my images missing from the Word document?

Saved web pages usually keep images in a separate folder or load them from the internet. For security the converter never downloads external resources; it only includes images embedded in the HTML as data: URIs. Embed the images in the file before converting, or insert them in Word afterwards.

Will my CSS styles be preserved?

Partly. The <style> block inside the file and inline style attributes are taken into account, but stylesheets linked from separate .css files are not loaded. Word supports only a subset of CSS, so basic text formatting carries over better than complex page layouts, which may be simplified.

Is converting HTML to Word free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark — just upload your file and convert it.

Is my file safe and when is it deleted?

Your file is transferred over HTTPS and stored on our server under a random code. The upload and the output are permanently deleted within 30 minutes, and the download link only works for whoever holds your unique code.
