HEIC to WebP Converter
To convert HEIC to WebP, add your iPhone photos and press Convert with WebP selected. WebP is a web format that browsers display everywhere and that usually gives smaller files than JPG. Each photo is uploaded to our servers over a secure connection, converted there and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest.
- Free, no sign-up
- Uploaded securely, deleted within 30 minutes
- Up to 50 MB per file
At 100% quality WebP is encoded losslessly: pixels are kept exactly, but the file usually gets larger. Lower the quality to 80–90% to shrink it.
Only the main picture is converted; extra data stored in the file, such as a Live Photo clip or depth map, is not carried over.
Your file is uploaded to our servers over a secure (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. Files are converted one after another.
How to convert HEIC to WebP
Add your HEIC files
Drag the files onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files and they are converted one after another.
Keep WebP as the output
WebP is already selected. The quality slider starts at 100%; lower it if you want a smaller file.
Convert and download
Press “Convert”. Each file is uploaded to our servers, converted and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest; download the results one by one or as a ZIP.
What is preserved?
Kept
- The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
- The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
- Colors (adapted to sRGB)
- Transparency (alpha channel)
Changed
- WebP is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail
- At 100% quality WebP is encoded losslessly: every pixel is kept, but the file is larger. Lower the quality to shrink it
Not carried over
- EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
- Extras stored in the HEIC file, such as a Live Photo clip or a depth map: only the main picture is converted
When to use it
Publish iPhone photos on a website
Browsers cannot show HEIC, but all current ones display WebP. Converting gives you a web-ready image that loads faster than a JPG of the same quality.
Product and blog images
If you shoot product photos or blog pictures on a phone, converting them straight to WebP saves a step before uploading them to your site.
Limitations to know
- Up to 50 MB and about 100 megapixels per file.
- The file is uploaded to our servers and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest; several files are converted one after another.
About the formats
What is HEIC?
HEIC (also called HEIF) is the photo format that iPhones and many recent cameras use by default. It stores photos in about half the space of a JPG at similar quality and supports transparency and several images in one file. Web browsers and many programs cannot open it, which is why HEIC photos are usually converted to JPG, PNG or WebP before they are shared.
What is WebP?
WebP is an image format developed by Google for the web. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and typically produces smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality. All current browsers display WebP, though some older editors and print services cannot open it.
Frequently asked questions
Does every browser display WebP?
All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari do. Some old editors and print services still cannot open WebP; use the HEIC to JPG converter if you need maximum compatibility.
Why is my WebP large at 100% quality?
At 100% quality WebP is encoded losslessly: every pixel is kept, but the file grows. Lower the quality to 80–90% to make it noticeably smaller with almost no visible change.
Which is better for photos, WebP or JPG?
At the same visible quality WebP is usually 20–30% smaller than JPG. JPG is still the safer choice when the file has to open in any program or on any device.
Is converting HEIC to WebP free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
Yes. This conversion runs on our servers, so your file is uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. It is stored under a random code instead of its name, and processing is fully automated. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
