WebP to PNG Converter
To convert WebP to PNG, add your WebP images and press Convert. Transparency is preserved, and the PNG opens in editors, office programs and older software that do not understand WebP. Conversion runs in your browser, so the images never leave your device.
- Free, no sign-up
- Your file never leaves your device
- Up to 50 MB per file
PNG is a lossless format, so there is no quality setting. File size depends on the resolution and the picture itself.
Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
How to convert WebP to PNG
Add your WebP files
Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.
Keep PNG as the output
PNG is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at 100%; lower it if you want a smaller file.
Convert and download
Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.
What is preserved?
Kept
- The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
- The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
- Colors (adapted to sRGB)
- Transparency (alpha channel)
Changed
- PNG is lossless, but the loss already introduced by WebP compression does not come back; the file usually gets larger
Not carried over
- EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
- Motion: only the first frame is converted
When to use it
Open a WebP in older software
Some image editors, presentation tools and print services still cannot read WebP. A PNG works almost everywhere, so converting first avoids the “unsupported file” error.
Save images from the web for editing
Websites increasingly serve pictures as WebP. Converting the downloaded file to PNG gives you a lossless working copy with its transparency intact.
Limitations to know
- For animated WebP files only the first frame is converted.
- Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
- On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.
About the formats
What is WebP?
WebP is an image format developed by Google for the web. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and typically produces smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality. All current browsers display WebP, though some older editors and print services cannot open it.
What is PNG?
PNG stores pixels without loss and supports full transparency, which makes it a good fit for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or text. The price is size: photographs saved as PNG are usually much larger than the same picture as JPG or WebP. PNG does not store animations.
Frequently asked questions
Is WebP to PNG conversion lossless?
The PNG itself is lossless, so nothing is lost during the conversion. If the original WebP was saved with lossy compression, that earlier loss is already part of the picture and stays; it does not come back.
What happens to an animated WebP?
Only the first frame is converted, and the result is a single still PNG. Animated output is not supported on this page.
Why did the file get bigger?
WebP compresses much better than PNG, especially photographs, so a PNG of the same picture is usually several times larger. If you only need compatibility, WebP to JPG gives a much smaller file.
Is the transparent background kept?
Yes. PNG supports a full alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent areas of the WebP are carried over unchanged.
Is converting WebP to PNG free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
