JPG to BMP Converter

To convert JPG to BMP, add your JPG files, select BMP and press Convert. BMP stores each pixel without compression, so the file becomes much larger than the JPG, but almost every old program and device can read it. BMP has no quality setting. The conversion is done in your browser and the photo never leaves your device.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Your file never leaves your device
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Output format

BMP is uncompressed, so there is no quality setting.

BMP does not support transparency; transparent areas are filled with this color.

Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.

How to convert JPG to BMP

  1. Add your JPG files

Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.

  2. Keep BMP as the output

BMP is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Changed

  • BMP is lossless, but the loss already introduced by JPG compression does not come back; the file usually gets larger

Not carried over

  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy

When to use it

Older Windows software and machines

Legacy programs, industrial control panels, embroidery and engraving machines often accept only BMP. Converting the JPG lets you load your picture into such software directly.

Images for microcontrollers and displays

Hobby projects with small displays or microcontroller libraries often read raw bitmap data. A BMP is easy to parse because it is not compressed.

Limitations to know

  • Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
  • On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.

About the formats

What is JPG?

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It uses lossy compression: detail the eye notices least is discarded to make files small, and the quality setting trades size against detail. JPG does not support transparency and is not ideal for text or sharp-edged graphics, but nearly every device, app and website opens it.

What is BMP?

BMP is a bitmap format that stores pixels with little or no compression, so files are large. It is simple and widely supported by Windows software but rarely used on the web; PNG gives the same pixel-exact result in a much smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the BMP file so large?

BMP keeps every pixel as raw color values. A 12-megapixel photo that is 3 MB as a JPG can easily reach 35 MB as a BMP, because nothing is compressed.

Does converting JPG to BMP restore lost detail?

No. The BMP stores the JPG's pixels exactly, including any compression artifacts already in them. The picture looks the same; it simply takes more space.

Can I make the BMP smaller?

Reduce the pixel size first with the resize tool, then convert. Since BMP is uncompressed, halving the width and height makes the file about four times smaller.

Is converting JPG to BMP free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
