What is preserved?
Kept
- How each page looks: text, graphics and images are drawn as in a PDF viewer
- The page proportions; the pixel size depends on the DPI you choose
Changed
- Each page becomes a flat PNG picture at the DPI you choose: 72 for screens, 150 as a balance, 300 for print
- Several pages are delivered together as a ZIP file (page-01, page-02 …); a single page comes back as one image
- PNG is lossless, so pages at 300 DPI can produce large files
Not carried over
- Selectable and searchable text: the pages become pictures
- Links, form fields, bookmarks and other interactive parts
- Transparency: pages are drawn on white
When to use it
Keep text and diagrams sharp
JPG can leave faint blurs around letters and thin lines. PNG keeps them clean, which matters for slides, forms, drawings and screenshots saved as PDF.
Edit a page as an image
Convert a page to PNG to annotate it, crop part of it or paste it into a design tool, without further quality loss when you save it again.
Limitations to know
- Up to 50 MB per PDF and up to 50 pages at a time; choose a page range for longer documents.
- Password-protected and damaged PDFs cannot be converted.
- A page larger than about 100 megapixels at the chosen DPI is refused; pick a lower DPI.
- The PDF is uploaded to our servers and deleted within 30 minutes.
About the formats
What is PDF?
PDF is a document format that looks the same on every device and in print. A page can contain text, vector graphics and images, and a file can have many pages. Converting PDF pages to images turns each page into a flat picture you can place on a website or in a design, while converting images to PDF packs pictures into pages of one document.
What is PNG?
PNG stores pixels without loss and supports full transparency, which makes it a good fit for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or text. The price is size: photographs saved as PNG are usually much larger than the same picture as JPG or WebP. PNG does not store animations.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose PNG or JPG for PDF pages?
Use PNG for pages with text, tables and diagrams, and JPG for pages that are mostly photographs. JPG files are several times smaller, PNG files are exact.
Why are my PNG files so large at 300 DPI?
A 300 DPI A4 page is about 2480 by 3508 pixels, and PNG keeps every one of them. Use 150 DPI for sharing on screen; the files become roughly four times smaller.
Is the background transparent?
No. PDF pages are drawn on white, so the PNG has an opaque white background even where the page looks empty.
Is converting PDF to PNG free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
Yes. This conversion runs on our servers, so your PDF is uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. It is stored under a random code instead of its name, and processing is fully automated. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
