BMP to JPG Converter

To convert BMP to JPG, add your BMP files and press Convert with JPG selected. BMP stores every pixel uncompressed, so files are very large; JPG can reduce them dramatically. The quality slider starts at 100%, and the conversion runs in your browser so the files never leave your device.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Your file never leaves your device
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Output format
JPG does not support transparency; transparent areas are filled with this color.

Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.

How to convert BMP to JPG

  1. Add your BMP files

Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.

  2. Keep JPG as the output

JPG is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at 100%; lower it if you want a smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Changed

  • JPG is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail
  • The lossless source is recompressed at the quality you choose, so pixel values are no longer identical

Not carried over

  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy

When to use it

Shrink scans and old screenshots

Older scanners, Windows tools and embedded devices often produce BMP files of many megabytes. JPG versions are far easier to e-mail and store.

Meet upload limits

Forms and platforms with file size limits usually reject BMP. Converting to JPG gets the file under the limit and into an accepted format.

Limitations to know

  • Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
  • On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.

About the formats

What is BMP?

BMP is a bitmap format that stores pixels with little or no compression, so files are large. It is simple and widely supported by Windows software but rarely used on the web; PNG gives the same pixel-exact result in a much smaller file.

What is JPG?

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It uses lossy compression: detail the eye notices least is discarded to make files small, and the quality setting trades size against detail. JPG does not support transparency and is not ideal for text or sharp-edged graphics, but nearly every device, app and website opens it.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will the JPG be?

Typically many times smaller, because BMP is uncompressed. The result bar shows the exact before and after sizes.

Is quality lost?

JPG is lossy, so some fine detail is discarded. At 90–100% quality the difference is hard to see; screenshots with text may show faint noise around edges.

Are 32-bit BMP files with transparency supported?

They convert, but JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white or the color you choose.

Can I convert many files together?

Yes. Add up to 50 BMP files and download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

Is converting BMP to JPG free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
