Convert UDF to RTF

To convert a UDF file to RTF, upload the .udf and choose RTF. Rich Text Format is a long-established format for formatted text that opens in WordPad on Windows, TextEdit on macOS and LibreOffice, even when Microsoft Word is not installed. Bold and italic text, alignment, indents and lists from the UYAP document are carried into the RTF file.

  • Fonts not installed on the server are replaced with similar ones

Not carried over

  • Custom page margins set in the UDF

When to use it

Opening a court document without Word

If a client's computer, a court office PC or your home laptop has no Word licence, the RTF version opens in WordPad or TextEdit without installing anything, so you can read the document and make small corrections.

Importing into legal and office software

Some case management tools, practice management software and older word processors import RTF rather than DOCX. Converting the UYAP document to RTF lets you bring it into those systems as formatted text.

Limitations to know

  • How tables and images look depends on the program you open the RTF in; simple editors like WordPad and TextEdit may simplify complex tables.
  • For e-signed documents, signature validation does not carry over to the new file; re-sign in UYAP for official use.

About the formats

What is UDF?

UDF is the document format of UYAP (Ulusal Yargı Ağı Bilişim Sistemi), Turkey's national judiciary information system. Lawyers, courts and enforcement offices create petitions, minutes and rulings in this format with the UYAP Document Editor. A .udf file is a ZIP package whose content.xml holds the full text, paragraph and character styles, tables and embedded images. It is unrelated to Universal Disk Format, and Word or PDF readers cannot open it directly.

What is RTF?

RTF (Rich Text Format) is a document format published by Microsoft in 1987 that stores formatted text as plain text with control codes. It can carry bold and italic text, fonts, alignment, lists, tables and images. Its main strength is compatibility: RTF opens in WordPad on Windows, TextEdit on macOS, LibreOffice and Word. It is less capable than DOCX for complex layouts, and its appearance can vary between the programs that open it.

Frequently asked questions

Should I convert UDF to RTF or to Word?

If you will edit the document in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, Word (DOCX) gives more consistent results, especially for tables and images. Pick RTF when you need to open the file in WordPad or TextEdit on a computer without Word, or when your software only imports RTF.

Will the RTF file open on a Mac?

Yes. TextEdit on macOS opens RTF files without extra software, and Pages and LibreOffice support RTF too. That makes RTF a simple way to read, and lightly edit, a UYAP document on a Mac where the UYAP Document Editor is not installed.

Can I turn the RTF back into a UDF file?

Yes. Use the RTF to UDF converter on the edited file; it is converted to DOCX and then to UDF. Before filing the result in UYAP, open it in the UYAP Document Editor to check it and, where required, sign it again with your e-signature.

Is converting UDF to RTF free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark — just upload your file and convert it.

Is my file safe and when is it deleted?

Your file is transferred over HTTPS and stored on our server under a random code. The upload and the output are permanently deleted within 30 minutes, and the download link only works for whoever holds your unique code.
