AVIF to JPG Converter

To convert AVIF to JPG, add your AVIF images and press Convert with JPG selected. JPG opens in practically every program, while AVIF is still rejected by many editors, forms and older devices. The quality slider starts at 100%, transparent areas are filled with a background color you can change, and the work happens in your browser.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Your file never leaves your device
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Output format
JPG does not support transparency; transparent areas are filled with this color.

Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.

How to convert AVIF to JPG

  1. Add your AVIF files

Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.

  2. Keep JPG as the output

JPG is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at 100%; lower it if you want a smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Changed

  • JPG is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail

Not carried over

  • Transparency: JPG does not support it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick (white by default)
  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
  • Motion: only the first frame is converted

When to use it

Open an AVIF in a program that rejects it

Photos saved from modern websites or phones may arrive as AVIF. Converting to JPG lets you open them in older viewers, editors and office software.

Upload where only JPG is accepted

Applications and marketplaces often limit uploads to JPG. Converting your AVIF image first avoids the “format not supported” message.

Limitations to know

  • For animated AVIF files only the first frame is converted.
  • Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
  • On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.

About the formats

What is AVIF?

AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. It delivers very small files at high visual quality, supports transparency, HDR and animation, and is among the most efficient formats for the web. Encoding is slower than for other formats, and some older software cannot open AVIF yet.

What is JPG?

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It uses lossy compression: detail the eye notices least is discarded to make files small, and the quality setting trades size against detail. JPG does not support transparency and is not ideal for text or sharp-edged graphics, but nearly every device, app and website opens it.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't my program open AVIF files?

AVIF is a newer format that older software and some operating system versions do not recognise. Converting to JPG gives you a file that nearly everything can open.

Is quality lost when converting AVIF to JPG?

Both are lossy, so the image is compressed again. At 90–100% quality the extra loss is hard to see, but the JPG will usually be larger than the AVIF because AVIF compresses more efficiently.

What happens to transparency?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white by default, or with the color you pick.

Does it work for animated AVIF?

Only the first frame is converted; the result is a still JPG.

Is converting AVIF to JPG free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
