When to use it
Pasting clean text into another system
Text copied straight from Word can carry hidden formatting into web forms, CMS fields or email tools. A TXT file contains only the words, so nothing unexpected follows it into the place you paste it.

Because table cells are tab-separated, you can copy the rows from the TXT file and paste them into Excel or Google Sheets, where each value lands in its own column without retyping.
Text analysis and AI tools
Word counts, diffs, search indexing or pasting a document into an AI assistant all work best with plain text, without having to deal with the XML structure inside a DOCX package.

About the formats
What is Word (DOCX)?
DOCX is the default document format of Microsoft Word since Word 2007. It is based on the Office Open XML standard: the file is a ZIP package that stores text, styles, tables, images, headers and footers as separate XML parts. DOCX files open and edit in Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs and Pages, which makes it the most common format for exchanging editable documents. When a fixed layout matters, DOCX files are usually converted to PDF.
What is TXT?
A TXT file contains characters only, with no formatting, images or page layout information. It opens in every program from Notepad to code editors and is the smallest and most portable kind of document. Whether accented and non-Latin characters display correctly depends on the character encoding; UTF-8, today's standard, handles virtually every language. Plain text is ideal for searching, archiving and moving content between systems.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste the tables into Excel?
Yes. In the TXT output each table row is written on its own line and the cells are separated by tab characters. When you copy those lines into Excel or Google Sheets, the tabs are treated as column separators, so each value ends up in its own cell.
Will special characters like é, ü or ş survive?
Yes. The file is saved as UTF-8 with a byte order mark (BOM). The BOM tells Windows Notepad and Excel that the file is UTF-8, so accented letters and characters from other alphabets appear correctly instead of as question marks or garbled symbols.
What should I choose if I want to keep headings?
In TXT, headings are just ordinary lines separated by blank lines, so their level is lost. If you want output that is nearly as simple as plain text but still marks headings, lists and tables, use Word to Markdown instead.
