PDF to SVG Converter

To convert a PDF to SVG, add the PDF, choose the pages, the DPI and 2 colors with a threshold or up to 8 colors, then press Convert. Each page is first drawn as an image at the chosen resolution and then traced into a separate SVG; several pages arrive as a ZIP. Text becomes traced shapes. The PDF is uploaded to our servers over a secure connection and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Uploaded securely, deleted within 30 minutes
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Resolution

150 DPI · balanced

Leave empty to convert every page. Type pages or ranges separated by commas: 1-3,5 · 2- (page 2 to the end) · -4 (the first four pages). Up to 50 pages at a time.

Several pages come back as a ZIP file (page-01, page-02 …); a single page comes back as one image.

Tracing settings. This is tracing, not a true vector conversion: the picture is redrawn as outlines. It works well for logos, icons and simple line art, and poorly for photographs. Transparent areas are filled with white before tracing.Best results come from logos, icons and drawings with clear contrast and few colors.

2 colors gives a black-and-white drawing. More colors create layered shapes in several colors and a larger file.

Decides which pixels count as black. Lower values keep only the darkest areas; higher values make the drawing heavier. It only applies to 2 colors.

The image is traced at up to 2048 pixels on its longest side; the SVG itself scales without losing sharpness.

Your file is uploaded to our servers over a secure (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. Files are converted one after another.

How to convert PDF to SVG

  1. Add your PDF

Drag the PDF onto the upload area or browse for it.

  2. Choose the pages and the resolution

Type the pages you want, for example 1-3,5, or leave the field empty for every page, then pick 72, 150 or 300 DPI.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. The PDF is uploaded to our servers, converted and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest; several pages come back as a ZIP file.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • How each page looks: text, graphics and images are drawn as in a PDF viewer
  • The page proportions; the pixel size depends on the DPI you choose

Changed

  • Each page becomes a flat SVG picture at the DPI you choose: 72 for screens, 150 as a balance, 300 for print
  • Several pages are delivered together as a ZIP file (page-01, page-02 …); a single page comes back as one image
  • SVG is lossless, so pages at 300 DPI can produce large files

Not carried over

  • Selectable and searchable text: the pages become pictures
  • Links, form fields, bookmarks and other interactive parts
  • Transparency: pages are drawn on white

When to use it

Outlines from a logo or drawing in a PDF

When a logo, stamp or line drawing is only available inside a PDF, tracing that page gives you SVG outlines for cutting, engraving or editing.

Turn a scanned plan into vector shapes

Scanned floor plans or diagrams saved as PDF can be traced page by page as a starting point for a cleaner vector version.

Limitations to know

  • Up to 50 MB per PDF and up to 50 pages at a time; choose a page range for longer documents.
  • Password-protected and damaged PDFs cannot be converted.
  • A page larger than about 100 megapixels at the chosen DPI is refused; pick a lower DPI.
  • The PDF is uploaded to our servers and deleted within 30 minutes.

About the formats

What is PDF?

PDF is a document format that looks the same on every device and in print. A page can contain text, vector graphics and images, and a file can have many pages. Converting PDF pages to images turns each page into a flat picture you can place on a website or in a design, while converting images to PDF packs pictures into pages of one document.

What is SVG?

SVG describes an image with shapes, paths and text in XML instead of pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. It is ideal for logos, icons and illustrations. When a program or website needs a pixel image, an SVG is rendered into a raster format such as PNG at a chosen size.

Frequently asked questions

Does this extract the original vector graphics from the PDF?

No. Each page is rendered to pixels and traced again, so the SVG is an approximation. Original curves, fonts and layers in the PDF are not copied over.

What happens to the text on the page?

It becomes outlined shapes in the SVG, so it can no longer be selected, edited or searched as text. Small print may lose detail.

Does a higher DPI give a better trace?

Usually smoother outlines, because the tracer has more pixels to follow. It also takes longer and creates larger SVG files, so 150 DPI is a sensible start.

Is converting PDF to SVG free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

Yes. This conversion runs on our servers, so your PDF is uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. It is stored under a random code instead of its name, and processing is fully automated. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
