DOC to TXT Converter
To convert DOC to TXT, upload the .doc file and choose TXT. Our server reads the document with LibreOffice, removes all formatting and saves the text as a UTF-8 .txt file with a byte order mark, so accented and Turkish characters stay intact. Table cells are separated by tab characters, bulleted items start with •, and images are left out.

When to use it
Pasting table data into a spreadsheet
Every table row in the TXT output is a single line with tab-separated cells. Paste those lines into Excel or Google Sheets and the values land in separate columns, so you do not have to retype the table.
Loading archive text into other systems
When you feed text from an old .doc archive into a search index, database, translation tool or AI application, plain text with no formatting codes is the most portable and predictable input you can give it.
Limitations to know
- The TXT format cannot store images or formatting.
- Password-protected or corrupted .doc files cannot be read.
About the formats
What is DOC?
DOC is the binary document format that was the default in Microsoft Word 97 through 2003. It stores text, formatting, tables and images in a single proprietary structure. DOCX replaced it in 2007, but DOC is still used because of older Office installations, some organisational systems and upload portals that only accept .doc. Current versions of Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs can open DOC files; DOCX is the better choice for new documents.
What is TXT?
A TXT file contains characters only, with no formatting, images or page layout information. It opens in every program from Notepad to code editors and is the smallest and most portable kind of document. Whether accented and non-Latin characters display correctly depends on the character encoding; UTF-8, today's standard, handles virtually every language. Plain text is ideal for searching, archiving and moving content between systems.
Frequently asked questions
How do tables from the DOC look in the TXT file?
Each table row becomes one line of text, with a tab character between cells. It stays readable by eye, and when you paste it into Excel or Google Sheets the cells split into separate columns automatically, which makes quick data extraction easy.
What encoding is the TXT file saved in?
UTF-8 with a byte order mark (BOM). This makes accented letters, Turkish characters such as ş, ğ and ı, and other non-Latin scripts display correctly in Windows Notepad, macOS TextEdit and code editors without adjusting any encoding settings.
Which format should I pick to keep headings and lists?
Plain text drops heading levels and bold text. To keep headings, lists and tables with lightweight markup, convert DOC to Markdown instead. If you want a fully formatted document in a modern format, convert DOC to Word (DOCX).
Is converting DOC to TXT free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark — just upload your file and convert it.
Is my file safe and when is it deleted?
Your file is transferred over HTTPS and stored on our server under a random code. The upload and the output are permanently deleted within 30 minutes, and the download link only works for whoever holds your unique code.
