WebP to BMP Converter

To convert WebP to BMP, add the WebP files, choose BMP and press Convert. The bitmap is stored without compression and without transparency: transparent parts are filled with white or a background color you choose. For an animated WebP, the first frame is used. There is no quality slider. All of it runs in your browser and nothing leaves your device.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Your file never leaves your device
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Output format

BMP is uncompressed, so there is no quality setting.

BMP does not support transparency; transparent areas are filled with this color.

Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.

How to convert WebP to BMP

  1. Add your WebP files

Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.

  2. Keep BMP as the output

BMP is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Changed

  • BMP is lossless, but the loss already introduced by WebP compression does not come back; the file usually gets larger

Not carried over

  • Transparency: BMP does not support it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick (white by default)
  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
  • Motion: only the first frame is converted

When to use it

Open web images in legacy programs

Old versions of Paint, CAD tools and industrial software may not read WebP at all. BMP is understood by almost every Windows program from the last decades.

Feed images to hardware tools

Engraving, embroidery and display programming tools often import BMP. Converting a WebP downloaded from the web gives you a file they accept.

Limitations to know

  • For animated WebP files only the first frame is converted.
  • Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
  • On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.

About the formats

What is WebP?

WebP is an image format developed by Google for the web. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and typically produces smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality. All current browsers display WebP, though some older editors and print services cannot open it.

What is BMP?

BMP is a bitmap format that stores pixels with little or no compression, so files are large. It is simple and widely supported by Windows software but rarely used on the web; PNG gives the same pixel-exact result in a much smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

How much larger will the BMP be than the WebP?

Usually many times larger. WebP is one of the most efficient web formats, while BMP stores raw pixels, so a 200 KB WebP photo can become several megabytes.

What happens to WebP transparency in BMP?

It is flattened onto the background color. Choose a color that matches where the image will be used; the default is white.

Does a lossy WebP become lossless as BMP?

The BMP adds no new loss, but the detail that lossy WebP compression removed earlier does not come back. You get an exact copy of what the WebP currently shows.

Is converting WebP to BMP free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
