ICO to JPG Converter

To convert ICO to JPG, add your ICO file, choose JPG and press Convert. If the icon contains several sizes, only the largest one is used, so the JPG is usually small, often 256 pixels or less. JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with white or the color you choose; quality starts at 90%. Everything runs in your browser and the icon stays on your device.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Your file never leaves your device
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Output format
JPG does not support transparency; transparent areas are filled with this color.

Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.

How to convert ICO to JPG

  1. Add your ICO files

Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.

  2. Keep JPG as the output

JPG is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Changed

  • JPG is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail
  • The lossless source is recompressed at the quality you choose, so pixel values are no longer identical
  • Only the largest size inside a multi-size ICO file is used

Not carried over

  • Transparency: JPG does not support it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick (white by default)
  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy

When to use it

Show an icon in a document or form

Word processors, ticket systems and upload forms rarely accept ICO files. A JPG of the icon can be pasted or attached anywhere.

Preview a site's favicon

When documenting a website or a brand, a JPG of the favicon.ico is an easy way to show it in a report or presentation.

Limitations to know

  • Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
  • On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.

About the formats

What is ICO?

ICO is an icon format that stores several square sizes (for example 16, 32 and 48 pixels) in a single file. It is used for Windows icons and for a website's favicon.ico; when a browser needs a small tab icon it picks the matching size from the file. It supports transparency, but cannot be larger than 256 × 256 pixels.

What is JPG?

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It uses lossy compression: detail the eye notices least is discarded to make files small, and the quality setting trades size against detail. JPG does not support transparency and is not ideal for text or sharp-edged graphics, but nearly every device, app and website opens it.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the JPG so small in pixels?

Icons are designed for small sizes; the largest image inside an ICO is often 256, 48 or even 32 pixels. The JPG keeps that size rather than inventing extra detail.

Which size inside the ICO is converted?

Only the largest one. The smaller versions are copies for tiny displays and are ignored.

Is JPG a good format for icons?

Not ideal: it removes transparency and can blur sharp icon edges. ICO to PNG keeps both, so use JPG only when a platform insists on it.

Is converting ICO to JPG free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
