PNG to BMP Converter

To convert PNG to BMP, add your PNG files, choose BMP and press Convert. BMP cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background color, white by default, which you can change. The bitmap is saved uncompressed and has no quality setting. The conversion runs in your browser, so your PNG never leaves your device.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Your file never leaves your device
  • Up to 50 MB per file
Output format

BMP is uncompressed, so there is no quality setting.

BMP does not support transparency; transparent areas are filled with this color.

Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.

How to convert PNG to BMP

  1. Add your PNG files

Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.

  2. Keep BMP as the output

BMP is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Not carried over

  • Transparency: BMP does not support it, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you pick (white by default)
  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy

When to use it

Logos for machines and label printers

Label printers, laser engravers and CNC software frequently import BMP only. A PNG logo converted to BMP on a white background is ready to load.

Wallpapers and boot screens

Some older systems, TVs and device firmware expect BMP for startup logos or wallpapers. Converting the PNG avoids a format error during setup.

Limitations to know

  • Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
  • On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.

About the formats

What is PNG?

PNG stores pixels without loss and supports full transparency, which makes it a good fit for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or text. The price is size: photographs saved as PNG are usually much larger than the same picture as JPG or WebP. PNG does not store animations.

What is BMP?

BMP is a bitmap format that stores pixels with little or no compression, so files are large. It is simple and widely supported by Windows software but rarely used on the web; PNG gives the same pixel-exact result in a much smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

What color do transparent areas become?

White, unless you choose another background color before converting. Pick the color of the surface where the image will be shown so the edges blend in.

Is anything lost when going from PNG to BMP?

The visible pixels are copied exactly; only the transparency is replaced by the background color. Both formats are lossless, so colors and sharp edges stay the same.

Why does a small PNG logo become a large BMP?

PNG compresses areas of flat color very well, while BMP stores every pixel separately. A logo with large empty areas can grow many times over.

Is converting PNG to BMP free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
