To convert DOC to HTML, upload your .doc file and choose HTML. Our server uses LibreOffice to produce standard HTML with heading, paragraph, list and table tags, and embeds every image inside the file as base64 data. The result is one self-contained .html file that opens in any browser and needs no separate images folder.

What is preserved?
Kept
- Headings, paragraphs and lists
- Tables, as HTML tables
- Images, embedded as base64
- Font, size and alignment styles
Changed
- Pages disappear; the document becomes one continuous page
Not carried over
- Page breaks and page numbers
When to use it
Publishing old documents on a website or intranet
Policies, manuals and notices stored as .doc can be published as pages people read directly in the browser instead of attachments they must download. Upload the single HTML file to your site or intranet.
Moving content into a CMS or email editor
The heading, list and table tags keep the document's structure when you move it into a content management system or an email template, with far less clutter than copying and pasting straight from Word.
Limitations to know
- Embedded images can make the HTML file large for image-heavy documents.
- Password-protected or corrupted .doc files cannot be read.
About the formats
What is DOC?
DOC is the binary document format that was the default in Microsoft Word 97 through 2003. It stores text, formatting, tables and images in a single proprietary structure. DOCX replaced it in 2007, but DOC is still used because of older Office installations, some organisational systems and upload portals that only accept .doc. Current versions of Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs can open DOC files; DOCX is the better choice for new documents.
What is HTML?
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the markup language web pages are written in. Headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, links and images are defined with tags, and CSS controls how they look. An .html file opens in any web browser without extra software and reflows to the screen width instead of using fixed pages. External stylesheets, web fonts and remote images are separate resources and do not travel with the file unless they are embedded in it.
Frequently asked questions
Are images saved in a separate folder?
No. Word's "Save as Web Page" writes images into a separate _files folder, but our output embeds them in the HTML file as base64 data. You only need to move one .html file, and there are no broken image links when you upload or email it.
Is the HTML clean enough to edit?
It uses standard tags such as h1 to h6, p, ul, ol and table, so it is editable. LibreOffice keeps font and alignment information as classes in a style block. If you only need the content structure, converting DOC to Markdown gives a leaner result.
Can I turn the HTML back into a document?
Yes, with our HTML to Word or HTML to PDF converters. However, page-based details such as page breaks, headers and footers do not exist in HTML, so keep the original .doc if you may need an exact printed layout again.
Is converting DOC to HTML free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark — just upload your file and convert it.
Is my file safe and when is it deleted?
Your file is transferred over HTTPS and stored on our server under a random code. The upload and the output are permanently deleted within 30 minutes, and the download link only works for whoever holds your unique code.
