JPG to PNG Converter
To convert JPG to PNG, add your JPG files and press Convert with PNG selected. The result is a lossless PNG at the same pixel size as the original photo, ready for editing without another round of JPG compression. PNG has no quality slider, and the conversion runs in your browser, so the files never leave your device.
- Free, no sign-up
- Your file never leaves your device
- Up to 50 MB per file
PNG is a lossless format, so there is no quality setting. File size depends on the resolution and the picture itself.
Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
How to convert JPG to PNG
Add your JPG files
Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.
Keep PNG as the output
PNG is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at 100%; lower it if you want a smaller file.
Convert and download
Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.
What is preserved?
Kept
- The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
- The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
- Colors (adapted to sRGB)
Changed
- PNG is lossless, but the loss already introduced by JPG compression does not come back; the file usually gets larger
Not carried over
- EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
When to use it
Edit without more JPG loss
Every time a JPG is saved again it is recompressed and loses a little detail. Converting to PNG once and editing from there avoids stacking those losses while you retouch, crop or annotate.
Meet a PNG-only requirement
Some design tools, game engines and upload forms ask for PNG. Converting your JPG photo or scan lets you satisfy that requirement in a few seconds.
Limitations to know
- Up to 50 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
- On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.
About the formats
What is JPG?
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It uses lossy compression: detail the eye notices least is discarded to make files small, and the quality setting trades size against detail. JPG does not support transparency and is not ideal for text or sharp-edged graphics, but nearly every device, app and website opens it.
What is PNG?
PNG stores pixels without loss and supports full transparency, which makes it a good fit for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or text. The price is size: photographs saved as PNG are usually much larger than the same picture as JPG or WebP. PNG does not store animations.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No. The artifacts that JPG compression already introduced stay in the image; PNG just stores them without losing anything more. The picture looks the same, only the file format changes.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?
JPG discards detail to be small, while PNG keeps every pixel exactly. A photograph can easily become three to ten times larger as a PNG. If size matters more than a lossless copy, WebP or JPG is the better choice.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency to begin with, so the PNG is fully opaque. This page does not remove backgrounds; it converts the file as it is.
Is EXIF data such as location kept?
No. The PNG is built from the pixels only, so camera, date and GPS information from the JPG is not carried over, which is an advantage if you share the file publicly.
Is converting JPG to PNG free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
