When to use it

Reusing an earlier petition as a template

Convert a petition you already filed through UYAP to Word, update the parties, dates and requests, and reuse it for a new case. Word's spell check and track changes become available along the way.

Collaborating inside the law office

Lawyers, trainees and assistants can comment on and revise the same text in Word, even if the UYAP Document Editor is not installed on every computer. The DOCX opens in Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs.

Quoting from rulings and expert reports

When you need long passages from a court ruling or expert report in your own brief, convert the UDF to Word and copy the text with its formatting instead of retyping it and risking mistakes.

Limitations to know

  • For e-signed documents, signature validation does not carry over to the new file; re-sign in UYAP for official use.
  • Edits made in Word are not written back to the UDF; convert the edited DOCX with Word to UDF.

About the formats

What is UDF?

UDF is the document format of UYAP (Ulusal Yargı Ağı Bilişim Sistemi), Turkey's national judiciary information system. Lawyers, courts and enforcement offices create petitions, minutes and rulings in this format with the UYAP Document Editor. A .udf file is a ZIP package whose content.xml holds the full text, paragraph and character styles, tables and embedded images. It is unrelated to Universal Disk Format, and Word or PDF readers cannot open it directly.

What is Word (DOCX)?

DOCX is the default document format of Microsoft Word since Word 2007. It is based on the Office Open XML standard: the file is a ZIP package that stores text, styles, tables, images, headers and footers as separate XML parts. DOCX files open and edit in Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs and Pages, which makes it the most common format for exchanging editable documents. When a fixed layout matters, DOCX files are usually converted to PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit a UDF in Word and turn it back into UDF?

Yes. Convert the UDF to Word here, edit and save the DOCX, then create a new UDF with the Word to UDF converter. Before filing it, open the new UDF in the UYAP Document Editor to check the page layout and make any final corrections there.

Can Microsoft Word open .udf files directly?

No. Word does not recognise the UYAP Document Format, so the file has to be converted to DOCX first. The result opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs and Pages, and you do not need to install the UYAP Document Editor or any other program.

What happens to the e-signature when I convert to Word?

The DOCX is a new file, so for e-signed documents the signature validation does not apply to it. Treat the Word output as a working copy. If you change the document and need to submit it officially, convert it back to UDF and sign it again with your e-signature in UYAP.

Is converting UDF to Word free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark — just upload your file and convert it.

Is my file safe and when is it deleted?

Your file is transferred over HTTPS and stored on our server under a random code. The upload and the output are permanently deleted within 30 minutes, and the download link only works for whoever holds your unique code.
