TIFF to BMP Converter

To convert TIFF to BMP, add your TIFF files, choose BMP and press Convert. TIFF has many variants that not every program understands; BMP is a plain uncompressed bitmap that nearly any Windows software can open. There is no quality setting. Each file is uploaded to our servers over a secure connection, read there and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. A multi-page TIFF gives its first page.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Uploaded securely, deleted within 30 minutes
  • Up to 50 MB per file

The selected format has no quality setting.

For multi-page TIFF files only the first page is converted.

Your file is uploaded to our servers over a secure (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. Files are converted one after another.

How to convert TIFF to BMP

  1. Add your TIFF files

Drag the files onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files and they are converted one after another.

  2. Keep BMP as the output

BMP is already selected. BMP has no quality setting.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Each file is uploaded to our servers, converted and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest; download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)

Not carried over

  • Transparency: BMP does not support it, so transparent areas are filled with white
  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
  • Pages after the first in a multi-page TIFF: only the first page is converted

When to use it

Open unusual TIFF variants

Some TIFF files use compression or layouts that older programs refuse. Converting to BMP produces a simple file those programs can load.

Machine and device input

Engraving machines, embroidery software and display controllers commonly take BMP. A TIFF scan converted to BMP can be used there directly.

Limitations to know

  • Up to 50 MB and about 100 megapixels per file.
  • The file is uploaded to our servers and deleted within 30 minutes at the latest; several files are converted one after another.

About the formats

What is TIFF?

TIFF is a high-quality image format used for scans, professional photography and printing. It typically stores pixels without lossy compression and can hold high color depth and several pages in one file, so files are very large. Web browsers do not display TIFF, so it is converted to JPG or PNG for sharing and publishing.

What is BMP?

BMP is a bitmap format that stores pixels with little or no compression, so files are large. It is simple and widely supported by Windows software but rarely used on the web; PNG gives the same pixel-exact result in a much smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

Will the BMP be bigger than the TIFF?

If the TIFF was compressed, yes, sometimes much bigger. If it was an uncompressed TIFF, the BMP is about the same size.

What happens to transparency in a TIFF?

BMP cannot store it, so transparent areas are flattened onto a solid background in the bitmap.

Are TIFF layers or extra pages kept?

No. Only the first page is converted, as one flat image; additional pages, layers and embedded metadata are not carried into the BMP.

Is converting TIFF to BMP free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

Yes. This conversion runs on our servers, so your file is uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 30 minutes at the latest. It is stored under a random code instead of its name, and processing is fully automated. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
