Favicon Generator
Upload your logo and get the icons your site needs in a single ZIP: a favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel images, a 48 pixel PNG for Google, an Apple Touch Icon with an opaque background for the iPhone, 192 and 512 pixel icons for Android, a maskable icon with the safe zone worked out, and a site.webmanifest. If you upload an SVG, icon.svg is included too. You see the tab, Google result and home screen previews and copy the ready-made <head> code; everything runs in your browser.
- Free, no sign-up
- Your file never leaves your device
- Up to 50 MB per file
Add your logo or icon image to start. PNG, SVG, JPG and WebP all work; for the best result use a square image of at least 512 × 512 pixels.
Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
How to create a favicon
Add your logo
Upload a PNG, SVG, JPG or WebP logo. For the best result use a square image of at least 512 × 512 pixels; an SVG works too.
Set the name, colors and padding
Type the site name and short name, choose the theme and background colors, and add padding if you need it. The previews show how the icon will look in a tab, in Google and on a home screen.
Download the package and place it
Download the ZIP, upload the files to the root folder of your site and add the shown <head> snippet to your pages.
What is preserved?
Kept
- Your logo's proportions: a non-square image is fitted inside a square, never stretched
- Transparency (in the standard icons; if you pick a background color it is filled in)
- If you upload an SVG, icon.svg is included as it is
Changed
- Each icon is resampled to its own size at high quality
- The Apple Touch Icon and the maskable icon always have an opaque background: the color you pick, or white when “Transparent” is selected
- In the maskable icon the content sits in the 80% safe zone
Not carried over
- No vector (SVG) is generated from a PNG or JPG; icon.svg only exists for an SVG input
- EXIF and other metadata are not added to the icons
When to use it
A complete icon set for a new site
A single favicon.ico no longer covers everything: the iPhone home screen, Android and Google search results expect different files. One upload gives you all of them with the right names and sizes.
Getting your icon into Google results
Google shows your site's icon in search results from a square file whose size is a multiple of 48 pixels, and that file must be crawlable. The package includes that file and its <head> link.
A website that can be added like an app (PWA)
If you want your site to be added to the home screen, you need a manifest and 192/512 pixel icons. The maskable icon keeps your logo from being clipped when Android cuts the icon into a circle or rounded square.
Limitations to know
- For the best result use a square image of at least 512 × 512 pixels; large icons made from smaller sources look blurry.
- Thin lines and small text become unreadable in 16 and 32 pixel icons; bold, high-contrast logos work better.
- The theme color is only applied in the address bar of mobile browsers and depends on browser settings.
- Google can take days or even weeks to update the icon in search results, and browsers cache icons too.
Frequently asked questions
Which favicon files does a website need?
The current approach: favicon.ico in the root folder, a 48 pixel PNG for Google, icon.svg if possible, a 180 pixel apple-touch-icon.png for the iPhone, 192 and 512 pixel icons for Android and a site.webmanifest. The generator produces all of them and gives you the <head> links.
What is a maskable icon?
A maskable icon keeps its content inside a safe zone and has a fully filled background, so Android can cut it into a circle, rounded square or other shape depending on the device. Here the content is placed in the central 80% area of the 512 pixel image.
Why is the Apple Touch Icon opaque with square corners?
iOS shows transparent areas as black and rounds the corners itself. So the icon is produced fully filled and without rounded corners, in the background color you pick (white when transparent is selected).
Why does my icon not show up in Google results?
The icon file must not be blocked by robots.txt, must be linked from the home page's <head> and must be a square whose size is a multiple of 48 pixels. After fixing it you can request re-indexing of the home page in Search Console; the update can still take days or weeks.
What happens if I upload a non-square image?
The icons are fitted inside a square without distortion, leaving empty space on the sides. If you want the frame to fill the square, crop it to 1:1 with the crop tool first.
Does it create an SVG favicon from a PNG?
No. Automatically converting pixels to a vector could quietly change how the icon looks, so icon.svg is only included when you upload an SVG yourself.
Is this tool free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
