When to use it
Using old petition templates in UYAP
Many Turkish law firms still keep petition, notice and contract templates created in Word 2003 as .doc files. Converting them to UDF lets lawyers open and update them directly in the UYAP Document Editor.
Bringing documents with tables into UYAP
Old .doc files with payment schedules, receivables statements or witness lists keep their tables as UDF tables after conversion, so staff do not have to redraw each table row by row in the UYAP editor.
Limitations to know

- Password-protected or corrupted .doc files cannot be read.

About the formats
What is DOC?
DOC is the binary document format that was the default in Microsoft Word 97 through 2003. It stores text, formatting, tables and images in a single proprietary structure. DOCX replaced it in 2007, but DOC is still used because of older Office installations, some organisational systems and upload portals that only accept .doc. Current versions of Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs can open DOC files; DOCX is the better choice for new documents.
What is UDF?
UDF is the document format of UYAP (Ulusal Yargı Ağı Bilişim Sistemi), Turkey's national judiciary information system. Lawyers, courts and enforcement offices create petitions, minutes and rulings in this format with the UYAP Document Editor. A .udf file is a ZIP package whose content.xml holds the full text, paragraph and character styles, tables and embedded images. It is unrelated to Universal Disk Format, and Word or PDF readers cannot open it directly.

What is UDF and why convert a .doc to it?
UDF is the file format of the UYAP Document Editor, part of Turkey's National Judiciary Informatics System (UYAP). Lawyers, courts and enforcement offices prepare filings in it. To open an old .doc template in the UYAP editor and turn it into a petition, you first need a UDF version.
How does the DOC to UDF conversion work?
In two stages. LibreOffice first turns the .doc into modern DOCX, which also normalises unusual or slightly damaged files. Our UDF toolkit then writes the paragraphs, styles, tables, images and page margins into UYAP's UDF structure, a ZIP package containing content.xml.
My document is DOCX. Which page should I use?
If the file ends in .docx, use the Word to UDF converter; the resulting UDF has the same structure. A file named .doc that is really DOCX inside is accepted here too, because our server identifies the type from the content rather than the extension.
Can I convert the UDF back to Word or PDF later?
Yes. A UDF edited in the UYAP Document Editor can be converted back with our UDF to DOC or UDF to PDF converters. On e-signed documents, signature verification will not be valid in the new file, so re-sign in UYAP for any official filing.
Is converting DOC to UDF free?

Is my file safe and when is it deleted?
Your file is transferred over HTTPS and stored on our server under a random code. The upload and the output are permanently deleted within 30 minutes, and the download link only works for whoever holds your unique code.
