Limitations to know
- Open the generated UDF in the UYAP Document Editor and check it before filing; signing happens in UYAP.
- If you need a letterhead, custom margins or images, finish the document in Word and use Word to UDF.
About the formats
What is Markdown (MD)?
Markdown is a lightweight markup language designed by John Gruber in 2004. Formatting is written as simple symbols inside plain text: # for headings, ** for bold, - for list items and | for tables. Markdown (.md) files are everywhere in GitHub READMEs, technical documentation, note-taking apps and AI assistant output. The most widely used flavour is GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM), which adds tables, task lists and strikethrough.
What is UDF?
UDF is the document format of UYAP (Ulusal Yargı Ağı Bilişim Sistemi), Turkey's national judiciary information system. Lawyers, courts and enforcement offices create petitions, minutes and rulings in this format with the UYAP Document Editor. A .udf file is a ZIP package whose content.xml holds the full text, paragraph and character styles, tables and embedded images. It is unrelated to Universal Disk Format, and Word or PDF readers cannot open it directly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I turn a ChatGPT-drafted petition into a UDF file?
Copy the answer as Markdown, paste it into a text editor, save it with a .md extension and convert it here. Open the downloaded UDF in the UYAP Document Editor, check the parties and the legal content carefully, then sign it with your e-signature and file it. AI output is no substitute for legal review.
Can the generated UDF be uploaded to UYAP directly?
The converter produces a file in the UDF format, a ZIP package containing content.xml, but we cannot guarantee that every document will be accepted by UYAP without changes. Open it in the UYAP Document Editor first, check the page layout and fix anything small there. Signing always happens on the UYAP side.
Why are my Markdown images missing from the UDF?
Only the uploaded .md file is processed; images referenced as  or by a web address are never downloaded, so they cannot be added. Images embedded in the file as data URIs are carried over. For documents with pictures, finishing the text in Word and using Word to UDF is easier.
Is converting Markdown to UDF free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark — just upload your file and convert it.
Is my file safe and when is it deleted?
Your file is transferred over HTTPS and stored on our server under a random code. The upload and the output are permanently deleted within 30 minutes, and the download link only works for whoever holds your unique code.
