AVIF to TIFF Converter
To convert AVIF to TIFF, add your AVIF files, choose TIFF and press Convert. The image is decoded and saved as a single-page RGB TIFF with lossless compression; transparency stays in an alpha channel and there is no quality setting. Lost detail is not restored, and an animated AVIF gives only its first frame. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
- Free, no sign-up
- Your file never leaves your device
- Up to 200 MB per file
The selected format has no quality setting.
Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
How to convert AVIF to TIFF
Add your AVIF files
Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.
Keep TIFF as the output
TIFF is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.
Convert and download
Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.
What is preserved?
Kept
- The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
- The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
- Colors (adapted to sRGB)
- Transparency (alpha channel)
Changed
- TIFF is lossless, but the loss already introduced by AVIF compression does not come back; the file usually gets larger
Not carried over
- EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
- Motion: only the first frame is converted
When to use it
Programs that cannot read AVIF
AVIF support is still missing in many older editors, viewers and print workflows. A TIFF copy of the image opens in them without trouble.
Archive a copy in a long-established format
TIFF has been used for decades in archives and publishing. Keeping a TIFF version of an AVIF image makes it easier to open in the future.
Limitations to know
- For animated AVIF files only the first frame is converted.
- Up to 200 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
- On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.
About the formats
What is AVIF?
AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. It delivers very small files at high visual quality, supports transparency, HDR and animation, and is among the most efficient formats for the web. Encoding is slower than for other formats, and some older software cannot open AVIF yet.
What is TIFF?
TIFF is a high-quality image format used for scans, professional photography and printing. It typically stores pixels without lossy compression and can hold high color depth and several pages in one file, so files are very large. Web browsers do not display TIFF, so it is converted to JPG or PNG for sharing and publishing.
Frequently asked questions
Are EXIF and location data copied from the AVIF?
No. Camera details and location data are left out of the TIFF, so only the picture itself is saved.
Is the TIFF sharper than the AVIF?
It looks the same. The TIFF stores the decoded AVIF pixels exactly, so softness or smoothing from AVIF compression is kept as it is.
Why does a tiny AVIF turn into a large TIFF?
AVIF reaches very small sizes with strong lossy compression. TIFF keeps every pixel, so the file can be ten or more times larger.
Is converting AVIF to TIFF free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
