ICO to TIFF Converter
To convert ICO to TIFF, add your icon files, choose TIFF and press Convert. An ICO often holds several sizes; the largest one is used and saved as a single-page RGB TIFF with lossless compression, with its transparency kept in an alpha channel. Icons are small, usually 256 × 256 pixels at most, so the TIFF is small too. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
- Free, no sign-up
- Your file never leaves your device
- Up to 200 MB per file
The selected format has no quality setting.
Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
How to convert ICO to TIFF
Add your ICO files
Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.
Keep TIFF as the output
TIFF is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.
Convert and download
Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.
What is preserved?
Kept
- The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
- The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
- Colors (adapted to sRGB)
- Transparency (alpha channel)
Changed
- Only the largest size inside a multi-size ICO file is used
Not carried over
- EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
When to use it
Put an icon into documentation
Manuals and print layouts built in publishing software often need TIFF images. Converting an application icon lets you place it there.
Archive icons in a common format
Keeping icons as TIFF next to other archived graphics makes them easy to open in tools that do not read ICO.
Limitations to know
- Up to 200 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
- On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.
About the formats
What is ICO?
ICO is an icon format that stores several square sizes (for example 16, 32 and 48 pixels) in a single file. It is used for Windows icons and for a website's favicon.ico; when a browser needs a small tab icon it picks the matching size from the file. It supports transparency, but cannot be larger than 256 × 256 pixels.
What is TIFF?
TIFF is a high-quality image format used for scans, professional photography and printing. It typically stores pixels without lossy compression and can hold high color depth and several pages in one file, so files are very large. Web browsers do not display TIFF, so it is converted to JPG or PNG for sharing and publishing.
Frequently asked questions
Which icon size ends up in the TIFF?
The largest size stored in the ICO. Smaller versions in the same file are not converted separately.
Can I make a large print image from an icon?
Only to a limited extent. An icon has few pixels, so it looks blocky when printed large; use the original logo file for print if you have it.
Is the icon's transparent background kept?
Yes. The TIFF keeps the transparency of the icon, including soft, semi-transparent edges.
Is converting ICO to TIFF free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
