BMP to HEIC Converter
To convert BMP to HEIC, add your BMP files, keep HEIC as the output and press Convert. BMP stores pixels without compression, so the HEIC is usually many times smaller; the quality slider starts at 80%. Each file is uploaded to our servers over a secure connection, converted there and deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result.
- Free, no sign-up
- Uploaded securely, deleted within 5 minutes of download
- Up to 200 MB per file
Your file is uploaded to our servers over a secure (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result. Files are converted one after another.
How to convert BMP to HEIC
Add your BMP files
Drag the files onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files and they are converted one after another.
Keep HEIC as the output
HEIC is already selected. The quality slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%, HEIC 80%); lower it if you want an even smaller file.
Convert and download
Press “Convert”. Each file is uploaded to our servers, converted and deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result; download the results one by one or as a ZIP.
What is preserved?
Kept
- The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
- The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
- Colors (adapted to sRGB)
Changed
- HEIC is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail
- The lossless source is recompressed at the quality you choose, so pixel values are no longer identical
Not carried over
- EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
When to use it
Compress old Windows screenshots and scans
BMP files from older programs and scanners take a lot of space. HEIC keeps the picture while shrinking the file to a fraction of its size.
Move BMP images to an iPhone or Mac
Apple devices handle BMP poorly in Photos; as HEIC the images can be added to the library like any other photo.
Limitations to know
- Up to 200 MB and about 100 megapixels per file.
- The file is uploaded to our servers and deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result; several files are converted one after another.
About the formats
What is BMP?
BMP is a bitmap format that stores pixels with little or no compression, so files are large. It is simple and widely supported by Windows software but rarely used on the web; PNG gives the same pixel-exact result in a much smaller file.
What is HEIC?
HEIC (also called HEIF) is the photo format that iPhones and many recent cameras use by default. It stores photos in about half the space of a JPG at similar quality and supports transparency and several images in one file. Web browsers and many programs cannot open it, which is why HEIC photos are usually converted to JPG, PNG or WebP before they are shared.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller does a BMP get as HEIC?
Often dozens of times smaller, because BMP is uncompressed. The exact amount depends on the content of the image and the quality you choose.
Does BMP to HEIC lose quality?
Slightly. BMP keeps every pixel exactly, while HEIC compresses with loss; at the default 80% the difference is hard to see in photos.
Can I convert many BMP files in one go?
Yes. Add them all at once; they are converted one after another and you can download the HEIC files individually or as a ZIP.
Is converting BMP to HEIC free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
Yes. This conversion runs on our servers, so your file is uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, converted there and deleted as soon as the conversion finishes; the result is permanently deleted within 5 minutes after you download it, or 10 minutes after the conversion finishes if you never download it. Files are saved under a random code instead of their name, and processing is fully automated. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
