Your file is uploaded to our servers over a secure (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result. Files are converted one after another.

How to convert WebP to HEIC

  1. Add your WebP files

Drag the files onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files and they are converted one after another.

  2. Keep HEIC as the output

HEIC is already selected. The quality slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%, HEIC 80%); lower it if you want an even smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Each file is uploaded to our servers, converted and deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result; download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)
  • Transparency (alpha channel)

Changed

  • HEIC is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail

Not carried over

  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
  • Motion: only the first frame is converted

When to use it

Save web images into Apple Photos

Images downloaded from websites often arrive as WebP. Converting them to HEIC gives you files that sit naturally next to iPhone photos in your library.

Keep transparent graphics compact

Logos and cut-outs with a transparent background stay transparent in HEIC while the file stays small.

Limitations to know

  • For animated WebP files only the first frame is converted.
  • Up to 200 MB and about 100 megapixels per file.
  • The file is uploaded to our servers and deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result; several files are converted one after another.

About the formats

What is WebP?

WebP is an image format developed by Google for the web. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and typically produces smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality. All current browsers display WebP, though some older editors and print services cannot open it.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (also called HEIF) is the photo format that iPhones and many recent cameras use by default. It stores photos in about half the space of a JPG at similar quality and supports transparency and several images in one file. Web browsers and many programs cannot open it, which is why HEIC photos are usually converted to JPG, PNG or WebP before they are shared.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to an animated WebP?

Only the first frame becomes the HEIC image; the animation is not kept. For motion, keep the original WebP or convert it to GIF.

Will the HEIC be smaller than the WebP?

Not necessarily. Both formats already compress well, so the size can go either way; the main reason to convert is compatibility with Apple apps.

Does a lossy WebP lose more quality in HEIC?

A little, because the image is compressed a second time. Keeping the quality slider at 80% or higher makes the extra loss hard to notice.

Is converting WebP to HEIC free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

Yes. This conversion runs on our servers, so your file is uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, converted there and deleted as soon as the conversion finishes; the result is permanently deleted within 5 minutes after you download it, or 10 minutes after the conversion finishes if you never download it. Files are saved under a random code instead of their name, and processing is fully automated. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
