  • Free, no sign-up
  • Uploaded securely, deleted within 5 minutes of download
  • Up to 200 MB per file

Your file is uploaded to our servers over a secure (HTTPS) connection, converted there and permanently deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result. Files are converted one after another.

How to convert ICO to HEIC

  1. Add your ICO files

Drag the files onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files and they are converted one after another.

  2. Keep HEIC as the output

HEIC is already selected. The quality slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%, HEIC 80%); lower it if you want an even smaller file.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert”. Each file is uploaded to our servers, converted and deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result; download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

What is preserved?

Kept

  • The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
  • The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
  • Colors (adapted to sRGB)
  • Transparency (alpha channel)

Changed

  • HEIC is a lossy format: lower quality means a smaller file but less fine detail
  • The lossless source is recompressed at the quality you choose, so pixel values are no longer identical
  • Only the largest size inside a multi-size ICO file is used

Not carried over

  • EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy

When to use it

View a Windows icon on a Mac or iPhone

ICO files are a Windows format. As HEIC the icon can be opened in Photos or Preview on Apple devices.

Collect app and site icons in one library

Saving icons as HEIC lets you keep them in an Apple photo library next to screenshots and other design material.

Limitations to know

  • Up to 200 MB and about 100 megapixels per file.
  • The file is uploaded to our servers and deleted within 5 minutes after you download the result; several files are converted one after another.

About the formats

What is ICO?

ICO is an icon format that stores several square sizes (for example 16, 32 and 48 pixels) in a single file. It is used for Windows icons and for a website's favicon.ico; when a browser needs a small tab icon it picks the matching size from the file. It supports transparency, but cannot be larger than 256 × 256 pixels.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (also called HEIF) is the photo format that iPhones and many recent cameras use by default. It stores photos in about half the space of a JPG at similar quality and supports transparency and several images in one file. Web browsers and many programs cannot open it, which is why HEIC photos are usually converted to JPG, PNG or WebP before they are shared.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the HEIC image so small?

Icons are small by design, usually 256 × 256 pixels at most, and the converter keeps that size. Enlarging it would only make it blurry.

Which size of my ICO file is converted?

Only the largest size stored in the ICO file. The smaller versions inside it are not exported separately.

Is the icon's transparent background kept?

Yes. HEIC supports transparency, so the area around the icon stays transparent.

Is converting ICO to HEIC free?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

Yes. This conversion runs on our servers, so your file is uploaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, converted there and deleted as soon as the conversion finishes; the result is permanently deleted within 5 minutes after you download it, or 10 minutes after the conversion finishes if you never download it. Files are saved under a random code instead of their name, and processing is fully automated. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
