GIF to TIFF Converter
To convert GIF to TIFF, add your GIF files, choose TIFF and press Convert. The colors are copied exactly into a single-page RGB TIFF with lossless compression, and transparent areas stay transparent. An animated GIF is not kept as an animation: only its first frame is saved. There is no quality setting. The conversion runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
- Free, no sign-up
- Your file never leaves your device
- Up to 200 MB per file
The selected format has no quality setting.
Your file never leaves your device; images are processed in your browser. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
How to convert GIF to TIFF
Add your GIF files
Drag the images onto the upload area or browse for them; you can add several files at once.
Keep TIFF as the output
TIFF is already selected. For formats with a quality setting the slider starts at a default that suits the format (JPG 90%, WebP 80%, AVIF 60%); lower it if you want a smaller file.
Convert and download
Press “Convert”. Every file is processed in your browser, and you can download the results one by one or as a ZIP.
What is preserved?
Kept
- The image resolution (pixel dimensions)
- The correct photo orientation (EXIF orientation is applied)
- Colors (adapted to sRGB)
- Transparency (alpha channel)
Not carried over
- EXIF, location and camera data: left out of the output for privacy
- Motion: only the first frame is converted
When to use it
Old graphics into a print or archive workflow
Icons, diagrams and scanned graphics saved as GIF years ago can be turned into TIFF for archives or print shops that expect it.
Edit a GIF graphic in full color
A TIFF copy stores the image in RGB, so further edits in an editing program are no longer limited to the GIF's 256-color palette.
Limitations to know
- For animated GIF files only the first frame is converted.
- Up to 200 MB per file; the output can be at most 16,384 pixels on one side.
- On iPhone and iPad, images above roughly 16 megapixels may not be processed because of a browser limit.
About the formats
What is GIF?
GIF is an image format from 1987 limited to 256 colors per image. It supports simple on/off transparency and short animations, which is why it is still used for small graphics and looping clips. For photographs it is a poor choice, because the color limit causes visible banding.
What is TIFF?
TIFF is a high-quality image format used for scans, professional photography and printing. It typically stores pixels without lossy compression and can hold high color depth and several pages in one file, so files are very large. Web browsers do not display TIFF, so it is converted to JPG or PNG for sharing and publishing.
Frequently asked questions
Do I get one TIFF per frame of an animated GIF?
No. Only the first frame is converted into one TIFF. If you need the other frames, export them as separate images in an animation editor first.
Does the TIFF add more colors to the GIF?
No. The image still shows the same 256 or fewer colors; the TIFF only removes the palette limit for edits you make later.
Is the GIF's transparent color kept?
Yes. Pixels that are transparent in the GIF become transparent in the TIFF's alpha channel.
Is converting GIF to TIFF free?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, subscription or watermark; just add your files and convert them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are processed in your browser and never leave your device, so the waiting time depends on the file size and your device. EXIF and location data are not added to the output.
